Description

Aquael sizes this heater by water volume rather than by tank length: the 150 W version, article number 120588, is rated for 90 to 150 litres, and the same range steps from 25 W up to 200 W across six models. The element sits inside a plastic housing rather than a glass tube, which is the reason to reach for it over a cheaper heater. Aquael markets the shatterproof body for tanks holding turtles or fish big enough to knock glass against the pane. The thermostat is electronic rather than bimetallic, with a quoted control accuracy of 0.25 C and an adjustable range of 20 to 33 C. That upper end matters beyond comfort. Raising a tank into the low thirties is a standard part of treating ich and similar parasites, and a heater that stops short of it cannot do the job. What Aquael calls its Smart Heating System is the behaviour on the way there, ramping the power instead of switching hard on and off so the temperature climbs without steps. Setting it takes one button. The LED scale shows the current water temperature and, while you adjust, the target, so the heater doubles as the tank thermometer and there is no dial to read through algae. Overheat protection is fitted across the range. The only dimension Aquael publishes for this size is height, 27.4 cm, so check your tank depth before ordering: the heater has to sit fully submerged to read the water it is heating.
