Aquarium IP camera

Description

An aquarium IP camera is a network camera pointed at a tank, recording it or streaming it to a phone. Researchers have used this kind of camera to study animal behaviour in aquaria. Two studies of the Southeast Asian apple snail Pila pesmei, published in ZooKeys in 2023 and 2025, recorded their snails with infrared digital video cameras that the papers identify as a 5 MP HD IP Camera. In the 2025 study, snail behaviour was recorded for 24 h, with one camera installed in front of each aquarium, a 17.5 litre glass tank holding 10 litres of tap water. The 2023 study shows angle and coverage at work. It used two video cameras for each aquarium, one recording the top view and the other the lateral view. When it moved on to egg laying, an infrared digital camera was installed in front of the egg-laying area, and five of the fifteen females that laid eggs did so out of the camera view after a sponge wipe came loose from the aquarium wall. A camera sold for home tanks adds remote viewing. HomiQ Life sells one as an aquarium and terrarium pet camera, and its listing names advanced color night vision, smart motion and pet detection that sends alerts straight to your phone, recording to a MicroSD card of up to 256GB or to cloud storage, and an app that supports up to four camera feeds. Those are the seller's features; no source here tests them. No source here says where to mount a camera on a home tank or how a camera's light affects the animals, so this page does not.
