Description

A sand flattener is a long-handled spatula for smoothing and shaping aquarium substrate. We found no reference work that covers the tool, so this page describes two Amazon listings: the spatula included in a four-piece aquascaping kit with more than 4,000 ratings, and a flattener sold on its own. The kit, sold by Liveek, contains a 12.5 inch sand spatula (about 32 cm), a 10.5 inch curved scissors, a 10 inch straight tweezers and a 10 inch curved tweezers. Liveek says the tools are stainless steel finished with spray paint, and lists laying out stones and sand and removing dirt from the bottom of the tank among their uses. Chaoeieng's flattener is listed at 12.6 inches (also about 32 cm), in stainless steel, with a head at each end. According to the listing, the small triangular end can untangle stem plants and make smooth slopes and terraces in the substrate. The Chaoeieng listing had no ratings when we checked it. It is included because it is the tool sold on its own rather than as part of a kit.
