Gold Dwarf Anubias

Anubias barteri var. nana 'Gold' is a cultivar of dwarf Anubias, sold as Golden Anubias and also labelled 'Golden' or simply Anubias sp. 'Gold'. The wild type of var. nana comes from Cameroon; the gold form exists only in cultivation and turns up in shops less regularly than the plain green plant.

It stays small, about 5 to 10 cm tall and 5 to 20 cm across, and grows on a creeping rhizome that must not be buried. Tie it to rock or wood and let the roots grip. Growth is slow and care is rated very easy. It is one of the few plants listed as cichlid proof, which is to say it is kept with fish that dig up or shred everything else.

Water chemistry hardly matters: pH 5 to 8, carbonate hardness up to 21 dKH, an optimum of 22 to 26 °C inside a tolerance from 12 to 30, and light from low to high. Divide the rhizome to make more, keeping several leaves on each piece.
