Stricta Hygrophila

Hygrophila corymbosa is a variable marsh plant from Southeast Asia, and 'Stricta' is one of its long standing aquarium forms. The name is recorded as a synonym of the species rather than as a separate cultivar, so the species' care applies. Stems reach about 50 cm, which puts the plant at the back of most tanks and in the midground of deep ones. It is also one of the stems used for the straight vertical rows of Dutch style layouts.

Care is rated very easy. The optimum sits at 24 to 28 °C within a tolerance of 18 to 30, pH runs from 5.5 to 7.5, and carbonate hardness from 2 to 18 dKH, so soft tap water and hard water both work. Light is listed as medium to high and carbon dioxide from 10 to 40 mg/l, the lower end of which an uninjected tank already carries.

Growth is fast, which means regular work: top a stem, replant the cutting, and the base branches below the cut. The plant also grows emersed, so in an open tank it can be allowed to break the surface and carry on above the waterline.
